Think about a person you like a lot.
Someone who is easy to introduce to others, seems to get on well with everybody, is always positive and upbeat …
Chances are that person is usually wearing a smile!
Happiness and positive energy seemed to be directly linked with this facial expression – it’s pretty hard to be grumpy when you’re smiling. Smiling releases endorphins, makes you look more attractive to others, and just generally lifts the mood wherever you are.
There’s a lot to love about smiling. It costs nothing, is easy to do (even babies don’t need to taught how to smile … blind babies will smile just as much as those who can see), and in only 2 seconds you can cheer up the person in front of you.
I think one of the best moments you can have with a stranger is a shared smile.
Suddenly, without ever saying a word, you’re united through a universal expression of friendship, peace, connectedness, and joy.
I love how Buddy the Elf responds when asked by his manager why he’s always smiling: ‘I just like smiling, smiling’s my favourite’.
If we could all make smiling our favourite, it would be a happier world.
“Let us always meet each other with smile, for the smile is the beginning of love.”
– Mother Theresa
Go on … give it a try next time you’re in the supermarket, or going for a walk, or just passing by people at the office.
Be Smiley.
